Mission

Help people in America access healthcare by working with patients and physicians to reverse wrongful health insurance denials and build evidence for accountability and systemic change.

How We Do This

Support you through appeals

We work directly with patients and physicians to reverse wrongful denials, providing hands-on assistance through complex appeals processes, and working in solidarity and community.

Build evidence for change

Through our work, we gather data and build evidence that exposes patterns of inappropriate denials, creating a foundation for accountability and reform.

Push for systemic reform

We use the evidence we build to push for systemic changes that address root causes, working toward a future where our direct services are no longer necessary.

Vision

We envision a society where healthcare is recognized as a fundamental human need, and where there is universal access, justice, and accountability.

People First

“We put people first.”

People play a central role in all that we do. We strive to foster community, center humanity, and prioritize people over profit. We treat each other and all those we serve with empathy, respect, and compassion, and we aim to build spaces that are inclusive and equitable, where everyone's voice has a place and is given meaningful consideration.

Healthcare is a Basic Human Need

“We believe all people deserve access to healthcare.”

We view healthcare as a basic human need and believe that all people deserve meaningful access, no matter their background or circumstance. Healthcare should be a human right provided by groups of people looking after one another, not a commodity from which to extract profit.

Do No Harm

“We embrace our responsibility to do no harm.”

Our work involves addressing injustice that has dire consequences. We know first hand that the problems we face can be literally life and death, and we approach our work accordingly. We are committed to achieving large-scale impact without propagating harms.

Center Equity

“We believe equity and inclusion are critical for our work.”

The problems we address are not equitably distributed, and have long caused disproportionate harm to some. We focus on supporting those most vulnerable and with the least access to recourse, and those who have historically faced the gravest harms. We recognize that many of those in greatest need have long been overlooked by support systems, and we are committed to centering their experiences.

Dream Big, Stay Grounded

“We dream big while staying grounded.”

Our vision is ambitious, and we strive to realize large-scale systemic change, but we never forget about individuals and their immediate tangible needs as we pursue this change. We strive to bring joy, purpose, and creativity to our work, creating space for ideal, pragmatic, and skeptic perspectives in the same conversations. We don't limit our aspirations, but we work collectively to focus and ground our dreams in ways that can help make them a reality.

Truth Seeking, and Undeterred By Complexity

“We are truth seeking, and don't hesitate to work on complex problems.”

We are a collection of curious, truth seeking individuals committed to addressing a complex problem. We are excited to think critically about barriers that stand in the way of equitable access to care. We do not hesitate to tackle difficult problems, and we strive to engage with curiosity and humility. We are scientific and hold ourselves to a high standard of analytical rigor. We believe that evidence and truth seeking are critical for understanding. We are data driven, and our perspectives evolve with evolving evidence.
